How to Play EuroMillions Online in Spain

Sales of all lottery tickets, including EuroMillions, were suspended in Spain for two months during the height of the lockdown. Lotteries and Gambling, the official operator of EuroMillions in Spain, suspended all ticket sales on 15th March 2020. Tickets that had already been sold for the EuroMillions draws on 17th and 20th March remained valid, but it was not possible to purchase tickets for further draws until the suspension was lifted and sales resumed on 18th May.

Ticket sales for other lottery games in Spain also resumed at around the same time. Any lottery tickets purchased for draws that were then suspended remained valid and could be used when the rescheduled draw took place. Here’s when draws resumed:

What to do if you have received a fraudulent communication

If you receive a letter or email telling you that you have won a prize, draw, lottery or competition in Euromillions in which you have not participated, we strongly recommend that:

  • DO NOT send any money
  • DO NOT open any link that contains a suspicious email
  • DO NOT reply to any suspicious letters or emails
  • DO NOT disclose any personal or financial information either by email, letter or phone
  • IF you have already answered, stop contact with the scammer immediately
  • IF you have provided personal or financial information, alert your bank immediately
  • REPORT this to your local authorities, that will provide you with additional information on how to proceed, as well as they will offer you advice in the event that you suspect that you have been the victim of a scam.

While law enforcement agencies around the world work hard to identify lottery scams and bring criminals to justice, the best way to avoid falling victim to a scam is to be constantly vigilant.

Types of scams in EuroMillions

EuroMillions scams can turn the popular dream of winning a jackpot into a costly nightmare. Here are some of the most popular methods used by scammers.

The first contact is usually made by one of the following means:

Direct mail

A letter is sent informing the recipient that they have won a lottery prize and that they need to register their claim in order to process their winnings.

Telephone

A “lottery staff” calls the potential victim to tell them the “good news” and, during the phone call, attempts to get bank details and / or payment processing while the victim is still impressed.

Email

This approach is similar to direct mail, except that the potential victim receives an email informing that they have "won". Email scams seem very truthful and can even link to fraudulent clones of official websites.

Social media

Members of social networks such as Facebook send a direct message saying that they have won a lottery or raffle on a certain website.

Mobile

A text message is sent informing the recipient that their mobile number participated in a draw or lottery and that they were randomly selected as the winner.

By whatever means a lottery scammer contacts you, his aspiration is always the same, try to get your personal data, banking information and, Finally, your money.

Players can stay safe by never giving personal details to strangers via email, paper, phone or text message.

Entering EuroMillions Draws in the UK

It’s still possible to buy your EuroMillions tickets online and in-store across the UK.

The game has remained available throughout the crisis, even following the UK Government’s announcement that the country had entered a state of lockdown as a result of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak. However, choosing your EuroMillions numbers online rather than in-store is still the safest option.

By entering online, you reduce physical contact with others and your entries will be stored safely in your online account.

Can I still buy tickets in-store in the UK?

Yes, National Lottery tickets can still be purchased in stores. Many shops remained open during the lockdown.

The UK Government stated that during the lockdown people could leave their homes to shop for “basic necessities” such as food and medicine. While lottery tickets didn’t fall onto that list, it was still possible to purchase them at the same time as shopping for essential goods.

While many restrictions have now eased, many shops have introduced measures to reduce contact, such as only accepting card/contactless payments, rather than handling cash.

Can I pick my EuroMillions numbers online?

Yes, it’s possible to choose your numbers online. Use the button below, where you will be taken to select your five main numbers and two Lucky Star numbers the same way you would in a shop.

Will online sales be suspended if the country goes back into lockdown?

The UK National Lottery has stated that it expects draws to continue as normal. If the situation regarding retail stores changes, there is no reason why online sales would cease. Online sales were never suspended during the first lockdown.

You can buy your tickets online, ensuring that your numbers will be entered into all draws for your selected period.

Are any EuroMillions draws being cancelled?

There has been no news to suggest that any EuroMillions draws will be cancelled as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak. Draws take place in Paris every Tuesday and Friday and have continued throughout the pandemic. Should this change, this page will be updated accordingly.

Ticket sales for EuroMillions continued in all participating countries apart from Spain, where they were suspended temporarily while the country was in lockdown. The situation in Spain has not impacted on the scheduling of draws.

What is the National Lottery doing to support people?

The National Lottery has already given £300 million to support community projects battling the coronavirus outbreak. The money for good causes is generated from ticket sales for all National Lottery games, including EuroMillions. It is distributed across various sectors in normal times but the focus at the moment continues to be on providing aid to those that are most vulnerable.

Can I still play in advance as normal?

Yes. You can play up to four weeks in advance. The National Lottery had previously reduced how far in advance you could enter draws during the peak of the outbreak, due to uncertainty over whether they would be able to go on as scheduled for long. For this reason, advance play was limited to the next two draws. However, with the situation constantly assessed and restrictions easing, it was decided to restore the rules to normal.

How the prizes are funded

EuroMillions prizes are financed from the use of ticket sales proceeds. A percentage of the money you spend when entering the game is added to the prize pool – this represents a 50 percent across the nine participating countries – with the rest divided between good causes, retail commissions and lottery operator costs and winnings.

Each country keeps half of the prize money generated to pay winners nationwide. The other half is grouped into a common prize and is redistributed to the winners once the results have been confirmed.. This method ensures that players in each prize category receive the same amount regardless of the country from which they are playing.. The only exceptions are the UK and Switzerland – who use different currencies – where the formula involving the exchange rate must be applied.

When you play in Spain, the cost per line is € 2.50. However, only € 2.20 of this price pay your entry for the main EuroMillions draw. The remaining € 30 go to the supplementary raffle El Millón. Of that € 0.30, a 55 percent is used to pay the € 1 million raffle winners each round.

Figures calculated using the results of the draws between the 27/09/2016 and the 10/11/2020.

The table is updated after each draw to reflect the latest EuroMillions results..

This column shows the percentage of prize funds allocated to each prize level. He 8,6 % remaining goes to a separate fund, known as "Booster fund" (Reserve funds) which is used to ensure that there is always a minimum guaranteed jackpot of 17 millions of euros. EuroMillions occasionally hold special draws, known as "Supersorteos", that have a guaranteed minimum jackpot of 100 millions of euros, using surplus funds from the Booster Fund.

He 50 % allocated to the jackpot only applies to the first five draws in a jackpot cycle. When the jackpot has been rolled over five times in a row, the assignment of “5 + 2 raffles” fits the 42 % until the jackpot is won. He 8 % remaining goes to reinforcement fund, ensuring that this reserve fund receives the 18 % of funds from the sixth draw of a jackpot cycle until this jackpot cycle is won.

The minimum and maximum amounts of the prizes for each category, other than the boat, are indicated in relation to individual winning tickets.

The value of the prizes for matching the 5 main numbers + the 2 Stars represent the total amount of the jackpot value regardless of how many winning tickets have.

All the prize data included in the table above shows the results of the EuroMillions lottery since 10 May 2011, when the number of stars was increased from nine to eleven and a new category was introduced. Details provided are for informational purposes, and are not indicative of the value of future awards.
