The history of the Eurojackpot lottery

The Eurojackpot lottery was conceived and launched as a direct competitor to the Euromillions lottery. For the first time, the question of its creation was raised in 2006 year, when the countries of the European block, not included in the Euromillions pool, saw on the example of the real prospects of opening an international drawing.

It took 5 years, before representatives of national lotteries in Germany, Finland, Denmark, Slovenia, Italy and Holland gathered for joint talks in Amsterdam. The meeting took place in November 2011 of the year. The main distinguishing subtlety of the conceived Eurojackpot plan was that, that this time not private lottery organizers were united, and state companies, who directly depended on the government apparatus.

Nevertheless, an agreement was reached, and already 17 Martha 2012 year tickets for the new international European lottery Eurojackpot were launched on sale. And then the first edition followed 23 Martha.

The success of the enterprise was not long in coming, and other countries quickly reached the Eurojackpot lottery community. 30 june 2012 Spain joined, after her 1 february 2013 entered the country Croatia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden. 10 October 2014 Hungary and Czech Republic joined, 9 October 2015 of the year Slovakia.

Thanks to such a large audience, Eurojackpot lottery caught up and surpassed its competitor in terms of the number of potential players. Countries participating in the lottery live 270 million people, it's more than 50 million more, than the audience of Euromillions. At the same time, Spain has become a unique country, which is listed in both lists.

Today, despite his young age, Eurojackpot lottery can safely call itself a worthy competitor not only in European, but also in the global lottery arena.

However, in other aspects, Eurojackpot stands out when compared side by side. While the guaranteed minimum jackpot prize for Euromillion is €15 million, Eurojackpot is €10 million. While the Euromillion draw occurs twice a week, Eurojackpot is drawn only on Fridays. However, the trend is likely to change in future and the management have hinted on adding another draw in the near future.
