History

New Zealand Cabinet approved the creation of Lotto in February 1986, the necessary passage of legislation through Parliament in April that year with a vote of 47-20. New Zealand Lottery Commission was founded in June 1987, and the existing Golden Kiwi lottery arrived under the direction of the Commission.
